Our office provides several treatments for restoring and preserving a youthful appearance. Each treatment is targeted for a specific area of the face; they may work better for some facial areas than others. After an initial consultation, Dr. Owings will recommend the treatment that is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX® Cosmetic
What exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the
Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical,
physician-administered treatment that can temporarily
reduce moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles. During
treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are
administered via a few tiny injections directly into the
muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is
usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is
needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can
last up to 4 months.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?
Moderate to severe facial lines form over
time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is
injected directly into the muscles and it works
by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected
muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause
those persistent lines to form.
When will I see results from a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to
severe frown lines and wrinkles. Lines continue to improve
for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months. In
clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement
in their appearance as moderate to better 1 month after treatment.
Results may vary.
How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?
Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to
4 months. If you discontinue treatment, frown lines gradually will look like they did before treatment.
Is treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your
physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or
anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10
minutes. Many people return directly to work or normal activity
following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.
Who should not use BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection
at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known
hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients
with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or
Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious
side effects.
Will I experience any side effects?
The most common side effects include
swelling, redness, bruising, and mild facial pain at the
injection sites. Less common side effects include
"droopy" eyelid and headache. Such symptoms appear
within the first week after injection, resolve spontaneously
usually by the second week and in the case of eyelid changes
can be corrected until then with medications.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are variable, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic
will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if
you "had work done". The muscle activity that causes frown lines is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised
without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
What will happen to the frown lines
and wrinkles if I choose not to continue treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, they will gradually look like they did before treatment.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic affordable?
When considering your facial aesthetic options, BOTOX® Cosmetic
is quite affordable. According to the American Society for Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery's 2003 survey, BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the
least expensive facial aesthetic procedures in the United States. Like
other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts,
teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative
to your expectations. Consult your doctor for more information.
Do treatment results differ?
To get the best results, it's important to go to a doctor who is
experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Restylane & Juvederm
More information about Restylane & Juvederm
Achieving the look you desire is as easy as it is quick. The
result is instantaneous. No previous skin test is needed, which
means that you can have the treatment immediately. The session
usually takes less than thirty minutes. The time differs somewhat
depending on the correction you want to have performed. During
treatment, Restylane or Juvederm is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with
a very fine needle. When injected into the skin, Restylane or Juvederm produces
volume that smoothes the wrinkle or fold, shapes the facial contour
or enhances the lips in a natural way. The result is immediate. The
method of injecting Restylane or Juvederm is fast and safe and leaves no scars or
other traces on the face.
Pain Reduction
Prior to your procedure, a topical anesthetic cream will be
applied to the area to be treated. A painless nerve block is
used for lip augmentation.
After Treatment
Immediately after the treatment, you may expect a
slight redness, swelling, tenderness and itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal
result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears
in a few days. When it comes to lip augmentation, the swelling may last
longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week. During this time,
the lips can look somewhat uneven. This means that the result directly after
the treatment should not be regarded as the final result. If the discomfort
continues or if other reactions occur, you should always contact
Dr. Owings.
A touch-up treatment within 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment may be
necessary to achieve an optimal correction.
In charge of your looks
As your face is constantly changing, beauty is best maintained by evaluating
the need for further treatment from time to time. With Restylane or Juvederm, you are
always in charge of your looks. With Restylane or Juvederm, you always have the option of
continuing or changing the combination of treatments. The treatment can be
repeated as often as you like.
Long-lasting, but not permanent
One of the great advantages of Restylane or Juvederm is that it is long-lasting, but not
permanent. Unlike permanent treatments or implants, Restylane or Juvederm always leaves
you with the option of re-evaluating your needs when the initial effect has
worn off. With Restylane or Juvederm, you will always have the option of continuing or
changing the combination of treatments. A follow-up can be performed at any time
you like after the previous treatment.
Non-animal
As Restylane or Juvederm is a totally non-animal product, there is no
risk of eliciting allergic reactions if you are sensitive to
common foods, such as beef, chicken, and eggs. Unlike some
other injectable products for wrinkle treatment and lip
augmentation, for example collagen made from cow hides and
hyaluronic acid made from rooster combs, there is no risk of
transmitting disease or allergic reactions.
Gentle and safe
Restylane or Juvederm is a safe product made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present
in the body. Restylane or Juvederm was the first approved, non-animal, stabilized, injectable
hyaluronic acid for aesthetic use. As it is free from animal substances, the risk of
transmitting diseases from other species is completely eliminated. To date, more than
a million treatments have successfully been carried out with Restylane or Juvederm in more than
60 countries worldwide.
